You’ve worked hard for the University of Colorado – and if you’re contemplating retirement, we want you to know what benefits are available to you. If you are five years or fewer before you retire, it's time to begin planning. These sessions are designed to be helpful to all staff, no matter how far out from retirement. CU allows full-time staff to keep a maximum of 44 days (or 352 hours) of vacation within a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). If you meet this maximum, you must either take or schedule vacation before June 30, or you will lose it. Double check your leave balances now, and make plans to use any hours of vacation time over the maximum allowable accrual time before the July 1 leave sweep deadline. As always, vacation leave requests are subject to the approval of your supervisor; don’t wait until June to put in your leave requests. If you have any questions regarding vacation leave, please contact your supervisor or Tanya Patzer.

All CU employees (faculty, staff and student employees) must complete the University’s Information Security Awareness training course within the first 60 days of employment and every two years thereafter.

It’s that time of year again…cold and flu season is upon us! There are a few things you can do to keep yourself safe from the cold and flu. The CDC recently came out with a few safety best practices:

• Get the flu shot. This year CU staff can make an appointment to get the flu shot at the Wardenburg Health Center.
• Keep hand sanitizer on your work desk, in your purse and/or in your backpack.
• Wash your hands throughout the day – don’t forget to use the soap!
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
• If you are sick and have a fever, please stay at home – we want you feeling 100% before returning to work.

Under all but the most extreme conditions, we have a responsibility to keep school in session. During Colorado winters, snow and ice are to be expected, and some days will result in a delay or closure if necessary. Read more about weather delay and closure procedures.

The FM safety committee meets the third Tuesday of every month to discuss general safety concerns, review safety reports and on-the-job injuries and recommend training needs and resources. If you are interested in attending a meeting or bringing an issue or idea that is safety related, please reach out to your area representative on the or contact our Safety Specialist Don Fitzpatrick.

As part of our ongoing efforts to support and better understand the campus and 911������ community, please join us for a private screening of “This is Not Who We Are.”

911������ prides itself on being beautiful, welcoming and inclusive. However, in 2019, racially charged and dangerous policing involving a Black Naropa student made national news. The documentary film This is Not Who We Are explores the gap between 911������’s self-image and the more complex lived experiences, both historical and contemporary, of its Black citizens. The director of the documentary will be on hand to facilitate what can be, and often are, difficult conversations about race relations in our community.

• When: Jan. 8, 2024 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., in person only (there will not be a Zoom option for this event)
• The movie will be streamed in English with Spanish subtitles
• Where: Main Campus in the Music Theater (S120), which is the chamber hall near the rear entrance to the IMIG Music Building
• Light snacks and drinks will be provided
