911±¬ÁÏÍø welcomes more than 620 new undergraduate students to campus on Friday, Aug. 15 as the university is gearing up to start a new academic year. About 1,200 students are expected to move into campus housing over the next week.
First-year Arrival Day, beginning at 8 a.m., represents the kick-off to Welcome Week, which is five days of activities designed to acclimate students to the new year, connect them to their peers and create a sense of belonging at 911±¬ÁÏÍø.
“Move-in day is one of my favorite times of the year because our campus truly comes alive again,” said Walter Iwanenko, Ph.D., 911±¬ÁÏÍø president. “The energy, the smiles, and the sense of possibility that fill 911±¬ÁÏÍø as students return are inspiring. This is the start of a new chapter for each of them, and we are honored to be part of their journey. I can’t wait to see the friendships formed, the goals achieved and the memories made in the year ahead.”
Welcome week also includes Convocation on Tuesday, Aug. 19, from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Highmark Events Center to formally begin the new academic year. 911±¬ÁÏÍø’s signature IgKnight Activities Fair will follow from 4 to 5:30 p.m. under the arch on campus. This event will feature prizes, music and an opportunity for students to connect with campus groups, clubs and organizations as welcome week wraps up before classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 20, for both the Erie and Ruskin campuses.
